I am working on a secret on-line project that requires clever and fun web writing combined with well-honed SEO skills. We are a couple of weeks into the project and this is the feedback that I was spontaneously sent by the client. He needs to remain anonymous just now!
“I’m just going through your posts and I just wanted to say that they are brilliant…You’ve got the tone spot on… and you’re clearly adapting to the different way of working like a duck to water. So thank you. You are creating real assets for the website in a number of ways.”
I am chuffed!

This testimonial comes from a client who asked me to write her words for a life/work/relationship coaching company. She is Swedish and speaks several languages but she confessed that her English wasn’t so hot! Here is what she said:
“Working with Fiona was a real pleasure. She immediately gave me a good impression when I contacted her to do the texts for my website, as she was always very quick in answering my requests. I knew it wouldn’t be easy to make a text out of my long, complicated, lengthy text and I expected her to take ages to do it. To my surprise, she already sent me the first draft 2 days after sending her my text, and she showed in her writing that she quickly understood what I was looking for.
“I really appreciated the fact that I could send her as many comments, questions and points. She always replied with sympathy and enthusiasm and made this task a very pleasant one indeed.
“I now have a text, better than I could have imagined, for which I already have obtained many compliments. It is great to have people like Fiona, who make the long-lasting development of a website easier by helping in every way that she can and by producing such great product in such a short amount of time.”

I’ve worked with Dojo Design Studio a few times. I like working with them. They are extremely good at what they do – and offer very reasonable prices. And, it seems, they like working with me, too.
After I wrote the words for their new website, they asked if I’d like to become a named copywriter for them. I said yes. Obviously.
So now I have a special link on their website, for customers who are looking for a great web design by Dojo – and the words written by an copywriter. That’s me!

I’ve worked with Dojo Design Studio in Glasgow on a number of writing and blogging projects. They seemed pleased enough with my work for a couple of clients to ask me to write the words for their relaunching website. I enjoyed the project, writing a more informal style of content for their website. And they liked what I did so much that they have given me a lovely testimonial:
Chris, of Dojo, writes: “Writing effective, keyword rich copy for the web has a huge impact on Search Engine Optimisation and Fiona has helped us deliver tremendous results for our clients. A small brief, plus some research, was all that was needed for Fiona to get a good understanding of who our clients were and what was required. We have now got Fiona to write copy for our new website which has let us get on with the process of designing and building the website. Fiona, you’re a lifesaver!”
The new website launches soon.

It is bad enough when a company makes one apostrophe mistake in a sentence. But to make two errors in one sentence is an apostrophe atrocity in my opinion. I read this on the Ronhill website when checking out sporty clothing.
One of the features of a garment is this: “UPF 50 – independently tested & certified to block at least 97% of the suns harmful UV ray’s from reaching the skin”
Er, Ronhill, you should be ashamed! The apostrophe is missing from “sun’s” and is not required in “rays”.
So it should read: “UPF 50 – independently tested and certified to block at least 97% of the sun’s harmful UV rays”.

The owners of on-line make-up and beauty tools website Victoria Loves Beauty came to The Number 1 Writing Agency following a recommendation. They were looking for help with the words for their website. They knew they wanted it to sound professional yet engaging. They weren’t sure how to draw in customers and how to write what they wanted to say. I also suggested that all product descriptions should be unique. They were lovely clients to work with. Here is their new website Victoria Loves Beauty I wish them a lot of success.

I run two websites. This one – and my Fionaoutdoors.co.uk blog site. Thanks to both strands of my business I have now been employed to write regular blogs for the new Regatta blog. It’s an exciting project and one that will hopefully suit a range of my skills including blog writing, a passion for the outdoors and social media networking. It’s early days but I hope you’ll follow me as I help to grow this blog
If any other businesses are looking for expert help and advice in building a blog (and most people now know how important blogs are for SEO and reader loyalty) then just call or email me. I can come in to offer your business training in blog writing or I can work for you as a ghost blog writer.

Many more companies are realising the huge benefits of regular website blogging and news updates. The sensible companies are employing professionals to help with this blog and news writing. We’re finding an increasing demand for such services.
Just last month we were signed up by Glasgow Tourism with Style to help with their regular news updates. The first news bite has been posted this week. See the post here
Our contact at VisitScotland said: “It was great to be able to send you some draft copy which you then sent back for me to copy and paste straight into our blog. Perfect!”
If you run a company and know that you should be blogging but somehow can’t quite find the time or know-how to do so why not give us a call or email. We can help you through the basics, hold your hand why you get started and then show you how to stand on your own two feet. You might decide in the end to keep us on for all your blogging needs – or you may find you can do some or all of it yourself. We are here to assist with either option.

Perhaps it’s good news that an item on a cafe menu (as spotted by one of my Spelling Spies) has been so badly misspelt. The dish in question is the bizarrely spelt:
CYRUP SPONGE.
But surely this shows that the sponge pudding is fresh and home-made and hasn’t been tipped out of a supermarket container. If the menu scribe had the sponge pudding packet to hand then they would have been able to copy the correct spelling of syrup. Instead, the “Cyrup Sponge” says to us that this is a delicious, home-made dessert that has been the unfortunate victim of a terrible speller.
We would have liked to have displayed a photo of the misspelt dessert but the Spelling Spy is a well-known customer of the English cafe and is keen to keep on the right side of the chef!
